Continental Airlines Reservations

Continental Airlines originated in 1934 with the creation of Varney Speed Lines which offered airmail and passenger services in the American Southwest. In 1937 the carrier was later renamed Continental AirLines and extended its local U.S. group with jet aircraft in the 1960s. Flights to South Pacific and South Asia destination began in 1978 subsequent to challenges the industry faced. Continental was involved in ownership struggles in the 1980s and went into bankruptcy in 1983 and 1990. The carrier shows signs of a financial and operational spin after, and went on international route extension in 2000s.

In 1934 the airline began service as Varney Speed Lines (it was named after one of its first owners, Walter Varney, who was a creator of United Airlines) working out of El Paso and expanding through to Albuquerque, Las Vegas, Santa Fe, NM Pueblo, CO. The airline began working using the Lockheed Vega, which only has one engine that carried only four passengers. They later on flew the Lockheed Lodestar and the Lockheed Junior other Lockheed Model 9 Orion.

Continental Airlines (CO, IATA, COA, ICAO, Call sign: CONTINENTAL) was a chief American airline that combined with United Airlines. Continental Airlines Inc. and United Airlines announced the combination on May 3, 2010 through a stock exchange; the merger was closed on the 1st of October 2010 and UAL name was changed to United Continental Holdings Incorporated. Throughout the period of amalgamation, the two airlines were operating separately under direction of a merged leadership team of the new parent company found in Chicago. The transaction of the merger was worth approximately (USD) $3.2 billion. United Airlines was issued a single operating certificate on November 30, 2011. From a technicality perspective, Continental Airlines no longer exist as a separate entity. Continental and United airlines are now seen as one by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and their pilots now use the “United” call sign in air traffic control. At 1 am on March 3, 2012 the reservations were combined and Continental.com was renamed to be the new united.com. Operations on the grounds will stay separate until early 2012. The last flight of the airline was Continental Flight 1267 on March 2, 2012.

Continental had brand partnerships and also ownership interests with other carriers. They had minor ownership in ExpressJet Airlines that was operating under “Continental Express’ but was a public company that was run separately. Cape Air Also operated under Continental Express name, Chautauqua Airlines, Commut Air, Colgan Air and Silver Airways supply Continental’s flights under the Continental Connection identity. However, Continental didn’t have any interests of ownership in any of these companies.
